Vietnamese designers learn the Pasquill process
In March, a team of six designers from our additional design support team in Vietnam came to our site in Scotland for a week to experience the Pasquill design and manufacturing process first-hand.
The Vietnamese designers, who range in experience and expertise, came to our Uddingston site to gain a better understanding of our customers, local markets and design practices.
During their week-long stay, they had a tour of the site and Design Centre and spent time with their counterparts, learning more about the way in which we work – exploring different parts of the business and gaining valuable experience to give them a general insight into the Pasquill process.
The group also had a chance to visit cultural landmarks in Scotland, including Edinburgh Castle, The National Museum of Scotland and the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. What’s more, the team also experienced snow for the very first time!
Paul Stead, Design Office Manager – MiTek Services, who has previously made the reverse trip to Vietnam, said: “The six colleagues who visited us are experienced in designing with timber engineered components, but this trip helped boost their understanding of Pasquill’s manufacturing processes and learn more about the nuances of our local markets.
“Many of the team are on our Junior Designer programme, which means we are all singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to design practices and compliance. What’s more, the trip provided an opportunity for them to meet and bond with their counterparts and make memories that will last a lifetime!”
Here’s what one of the Vietnamese Designers, Thuận, said about the trip; “This is truly a memorable trip and my dream to go abroad comes true. The best part of the trip for me was visiting the factory and seeing first-hand the production process, which we only had a chance to see through the computer screen but not in person. Besides learning about the job, we have learnt a lot about the country, culture and the British people.
“We were very excited to visit Edinburgh Castle, which has a very unique architecture, and experience different dishes at luxury restaurants namely Italian, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Indian and even Vietnamese.”
Duc, another of our Vietnamese MiTek Designers, said; “This was the best trip I have ever been on, filled with joy and great experiences such as cold and cosy weather. Our team got to see many new things outside of our country and experience many wonderful activities.
“We learnt how our files are used at the factories for manufacturing and how to keep material use down to avoid overstocking. As well as the estimating process through stages 1 and 2. We even went to the capital of Scotland, seeing old ruins, buildings, castles and got quality time after hours with good food and drink.”
Overall, the trip was a great success we were delighted to host the team and we can’t wait to have further visits in the future!
